- preferred reading- this is when audiences respond to the product the way media producers want/expect them to

-Oppositional reading- this is when the audience are in complete disagreement with the products message or setting
Broadsheet- older audiences, very formal, audiences want more in depth info, high quality ads aimed at wealthier audience, mature fonts, capital letters (asserts dominance and things you want to see in the newspaper) Anchorage text (leads to photo, formal text, explains picture), very text heavy, higher standard of vocabulary, current affairs- telegraph, Financial Times

Masthead- Large font at top, easily recognisable, red and white to catch readers eye.
layout- large images, cover most of page, title in large capital letters in order to catch eye and attention of reader

connotation- bold serif type face to attract audience
content- direct, doesn't beat around the bush, exaggerated, call him Andy, no respect to the prince
